Get Your Priorities Straight

by Ryan in Uncategorized 0 comments
“Your schedule is the best barometer for what you truly value and believe is important”. I just read this quote in The Greatness Guide by Robin Sharma.  This is so true.  The first thing I do every month is put my semi-private training sessions in the family calendar.  Everyone knows that on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7am I will be at the gym.  We have church on our schedule every Sunday at 10AM and Wednesday at 5:30pm.  We have family movie night written down for Fridays at 6pm.  The important stuff is written down. If you want to make your health a priority get workouts and bedtimes into your calendar.  I know, you’re too busy.  Well, where are you spending your time?  Have you been sucked into social media and the boob tube?  But you have no time for food prep or to take a walk around the block?  Schedule it in.  Make Sunday 2-4pm your food prep time for the week.  Schedule a family walk after dinner at 6:30pm. Figure out when you’re going to go to the gym or go for a run.  Be specific and put it in your calendar!  If you know you need 8 […]

How Complete Are You?

by Ryan in Fitness, Tips, Training, Uncategorized 0 comments tags: athlete, complete, endurance, obtraining, Strength, utica
There are many athletes out there who stick to what they are familiar with or are complacent in their daily routine. You may be the type of athlete who enjoys to run, or the athlete who insists on only calisthenics. Whatever the case may be, sticking to only one approach over time can hinder your progress and render you incomplete. Let’s use runners for example; these athletes only train certain muscle groups in their body that pertain to their specific sport. Furthermore, they only train these muscles in one way – slow.  Runners predominately work their legs with a little core thrown in, plus the obvious cardiovascular benefits. However, these athletes are lacking in the development of strength and explosive power. Both are significant for overall health and longevity.  They are neglecting the remaining body parts and over time these specific muscles will fall farther behind the rest of the body.  Over time the constant abuse to the same muscles in the same exact maker can lead to overuse injuries. This also goes for the bodybuilder type who are in the gym, pumping iron 5-6 days week focusing only on their “beach muscles,” leaving little time to work on other […]

What Do You See In The Mirror?

by Ryan in Blog, Fitness, Inspiration, Uncategorized 0 comments
What do you see when you look in the mirror?  Are you picking out every spot that you don’t like about yourself?  Armfat?  Cellulite?  Pooch?  That teeny tiny pimple on your chin?  Stop being so critical!  When you look at yourself in the mirror, it is essential that you pick out all of the things you LOVE about your body!  Your body is strong.  You are beautiful.  If you don’t love your body now, guess what?  You won’t love it when you lose those “last 5 pounds” either.   Body image is so important.  Would you tell your best friend that you thought she looked fat today?  Or that you can’t believe she left the house with her butt looking so big?  I’m guessing not.  So why is it ok to say that to yourself.  It is heartbreaking to see all of the beautiful women who walk into our gym who do not lend themselves the same amount of grace they would be to a friend.   It is SO important to love yourself!  If you have a hard time doing it for yourself, then think about your children.  Do you want them to be looking at themselves in the […]

Athlete In The Spotlight: Jamarious Morgan

by Ryan in Blog, Inspiration, Uncategorized 0 comments tags: Football, obtraining, performance, Proctor, speed, sports, training, utica
Every so often you come across an athlete that is special.  You can’t really put your finger on it but something about them is just special. Well when Jamarious Morgan walked through our doors this past summer we knew immediately he was special.  He is a soft-spoken, polite, hard working, extremely talented young man.  He always shows up on time ready to work and even though he may not always feel like it, he puts in the work.  His superhero comparison is on point.  He’s lighting fast like The Flash and impressively strong like Superman.  On the football field, it’s amazing to see the way his body bends and moves as he breaks tackle after tackle on his way to the end zone.  The athletic abilities that he displays are quite simply amazing.  That combined with his warming personality and witty jokes makes him a pleasure to coach and this month’s Athlete In The Spotlight. Q: Tell us a little about yourself. A: My name is Jamarious Morgan, I am a running back on the football team at Utica Proctor.  I also run track, play lacrosse and I love to compete. Q: How long have you been training at O.B. […]
