[INFOGRAPHIC] A Guide For Surviving The Holidays

by Ryan in Uncategorized 0 comments
Don’t just survive the holidays – Thrive through them   The holidays are hard.  Your schedule gets busier, there are parties, life is hectic, and it seems like there are cookies EVERYWHERE!  Don’t despair – It IS possible to make it through the holidays in one piece.  Here are some tips to thrive this holiday season!   Stick with your normal routine when you can.  Go to sleep at wake up at the same time every day.  Go to the gym for your usual sessions.  Our bodies thrive on routine so it’s important to keep your regular schedule.  When you have to stay up late or skip a workout, that’s ok, but get right back on schedule the next day!   For a lot of people, food is a major issue at the holidays.  This can be especially true if you’re seeing family or friends that trigger an emotional eating response.  Eating well is hard in this situation.  The first thing you need to do is keep your goals in mind.  Whether you are trying to keep your healthy lifestyle or to lose a few pounds, keep this at the forefront of your brain when you’re making your plate. Kristy’s Story: See How She Lost 10% Body-Fat……Doing ZERO Cardio

by Ryan in Blog, Fitness, Inspiration, Nutrition, Strength, Tips, Uncategorized 0 comments
Why do women have an image of themselves looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger when they think about lifting heavy? How many women do you see walking around looking like Arnold? I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen one. Sure, you see the pictures of the lady body builders who have their muscles and veins popping out – but guess what?  It’s not natural.  These ladies have to take testosterone and other illegal substances, not to mention work REALLY hard, to look that way. Before I share the benefits of strength training, let me be vulnerable and share my pre-lifting/post-lifting pictures: That’s one year between the two pictures. I have lost body fat, belly fat, toned up, improved my posture and erased my chronic shoulder and neck pain.  How did I make these amazing changes in just one year?  It wasn’t by running 20 miles a week, doing intense boot camp classes or by starving myself. All I did was lift heavy weights three times a week and focused on getting enough calories to maintain my workouts (usually 1700-1800).  I had goals and my Coach helped me reach them.  My goals weren’t even to lose weight or get toned.  Some of my goals over the […]

Athlete In The Spotlight: Emily Marsh

by Ryan in Blog, Fitness, Inspiration, Uncategorized 0 comments
One of the hardest working athlete’s here at O.B. Training & Sports Performance is one of our high school hockey players.  In fact, this season is their first season playing high school hockey.  No, not because they weren’t old enough or didn’t make the team last year but rather because this is the first year that our area has a women’s high school ice hockey team.  O.B. Training athlete Emily Marsh is not only one of the hardest working athletes we have but also one of the first girls in the area to get a chance to play ice hockey for a local high school.  That may not mean much to some of you but I don’t think you realize how huge that is for the girls that play ice hockey in the area (and the parents of course).  You see, women’s ice hockey is obviously not as popular as mens ice hockey which means less teams, less opportunity, greater distances to travel, last pick for ice time, bottom of the paper for news coverage, smaller crowds….I think you get the point.  The thing that will amaze you is that to Emily and the rest of the women’s ice hockey […]
