[Coach Ari] The Power Of ‘Why’

by Ryan in Uncategorized 0 comments
What is it that fuels you to want to be healthy? Who is it that you strive to be successful for in both health and business? Is it your significant other? Your kids? Yourself?  Not everyone chooses a healthy and successful lifestyle for the same reasons. We all read these questions and have our own answers and definitions of health/success.  Which is why there is a huge power behind your WHY. Yes, goals are important to continue to move forward. But what keeps us going when times get tough and taking the easier route becomes tempting? Setting a goal of losing ten pounds is great! But WHY do you want to do it? Is it because you don’t feel comfortable in your own skin? You want to be healthy for your kids? You’re sick of feeling sluggish? Really think about an attainable goal, put a time limit on it and write down HOW you will achieve it. For example, ‘I want to lose ten pounds in six weeks by eating healthier and working out three times per week.’ Or even a goal relating to quitting something that you know isn’t helping you reach your goals like ‘I want to quit […]

EuroTrip 2017: 12 Days – 12 Revelations – 12 Commitments

by Ryan in Uncategorized 0 comments
Perspective is truly an amazing thing. It can be shifted in a moment and vary greatly from person to person, situation to situation and from culture to culture. Above all else, the perspective in which you allow yourself to experience life can determine your mindset, well-being and overall level of fulfillment each day.  As your own perspective evolves the way that you see the world will evolve with it. Two weeks ago, I spent12 days of my life traveling through Europe with my brother on an adventure that will surely shift my perspective on life in multiple ways. Just like the movie goes . . . .Planes, Trains and Automobiles were a major part of our travel and gave us each ample time to reflect on all that we have experienced throughout the 12 days  of traveling across Europe.  To be exact we traveled 7,000 miles by plane, 1,000 miles by train and just shy of 1,000 miles by car.  The trip started in New York with a flight to Munich…A long, stressful and “exciting” train excursion the landed us in Strasbourg, France before we blasted off in the high speed train to Paris.  From Paris, we shot up to […]

33% Of Female Athletes Show Symptoms Of This . . . . .

by Ryan in Blog, Fitness, Inspiration, Nutrition, Uncategorized 0 comments tags: anorexia, athlete, eating disorder, female athlete triad
As I laid in my bed, eyes wide open, the haunting thoughts raced around my head again….. “What if I get fat while I’m sleeping” “I ate way too much today, I know it” “I’m going to wake up before school and run around the neighborhood” I couldn’t take it anymore, the thoughts became too much so I peeled myself out of bed and creeped through my house and out the back door (careful not to wake my parents in the middle of the night). I wasn’t going to stop until my pedometer said I burned at least 700 calories. As soon as my feet hit the grass I began to sprint…..Up the hill and right back down, as soon as I got back to where I started back up again I went. No way was I going to be FAT! The next day I didn’t eat as punishment for what happened the day before. What could have possibly happened you ask? I ate lunch. All throughout my childhood, I was the skinny girl. Everyone in my family was bigger than me, most of my classmates, friends and teammates were often bigger than me.  I would look at my teammates […]

ATTENTION LADIES: You’ve Been Lied To…Why Your Workout Program Doesn’t Work

by Ryan in Uncategorized 0 comments
ATTENTION LADIES: You’ve Been Lied To! Yup that’s right.  I hate to say it but it’s true. You’ve been lead to believe that lifting 3 pound weights and dancing around the room is going to get you strong, lean, and fit. Now, yes someone that is new to exercise will benefit from that type of work out but the REALITY is that at some point those RESULTS will STOP. It’s simple. Your body needs a reason to change . . . . A reason to get stronger. A reason to get leaner. A reason to get better. Unfortunately, your body will get used to dancing around with 3lb weights very quickly and then the RESULTS will STOP. Be honest with yourself….How many more hours are you going to spend getting your punch card stamped with no results? It’s time to make a change and now that I’ve gotten your attention let’s take a look at the science behind why your body changes and how you can use it to your advantage. The GAS Principle (Understanding How Your Body Adapts) What GAS? Yup I said GAS – General Adaptation Syndrome. The General Adaptation Syndrome was first described by Dr. Hans Selye […]

The Simple Nutrition Plan For The Single Dude

by Ryan in Uncategorized 0 comments
Let’s face it. . . for most guys going to the grocery store is a nightmare. With endless aisles and shelves of foods we can barely pronounce combined with labels touting products as “natural” and “healthy”, the entire experience can be stressful for some to downright traumatic for others. Now consider the fact that you are single, with no significant other to brave this pilgrimage with you, and just calling to order a pizza becomes a much more appealing option. But halt! That pizza may look delicious on the commercials between innings, and even though the Yankees scored 6 or more runs last night so that large two-topping you were eyeing is now 50% off today, there is a better way! Falling into the trap of ordering take-out multiple times a week (or should I say multiple times a day?) can be a real quick way to cancel out all the hard work you’ve been putting in at the gym and seriously test out the weight capacity of your bathroom scale.   “But Coach Joe, we already talked about how terrifying going through grocery store hell can be, how can I pick between these two seemingly awful choices?”   Gentleman, […]

Do Your ACTIONS Align With Your RESULTS????

by Ryan in Uncategorized 0 comments
If someone were to follow you around for 24 hours and only having your actions, not your words, to consider, would they be able to guess what your goals are? This was a question asked by Kyle Snyder, an athlete at The Ohio Regional Training Center, where Ohio State Varsity wrestlers train almost year round.  Shortly after posing that question to other wrestlers and coaches at Ohio State, Kyle, as a 20-year-old junior in college went on to become the youngest American wrestler to win an Olympic Gold Medal. For Kyle the answer to his question was simple.  People could clearly tell what his goals were by his actions day in and day out. For the majority of us, the answer may not be so definite. Anyone with even a hint of ambition has goals. This is nothing extraordinary. Being able to tell someone what it is that you want for yourself is a huge part of the battle of improvement. However valiant it is to be able to vocalize these big plans, they will amount to absolutely nothing without ACTION. There is a quote by Les Brown that says “The graveyard is the richest place on earth, because it […]

5 Key Components Of An EFFECTIVE Training Program

by Ryan in Uncategorized 0 comments
In a world of quick-fixes and magic solutions to major problems everyone seems to be looking for the “shortcut.”  Unfortunately, after hundreds of years of research in fitness and nutrition scientists have yet to discover a magic pill or “shortcut” for achieving your weight loss goals.  Yeah they may be some supplement you can take or “secret-diet” you can go on but in the end the result will be the same and the weight will come back on.  Now that I just crushed your hopes and dreams that this article will be your savior, I will say that there are certain ways to make your training program more effective.  At O.B. Training & Sports Performance roughly 90% of our adult member’s goals can be broken down to three things: Burn Fat Build Muscle Feel Good What I’ve found to be a reoccurring theme over the last 6 years is that people will put all of their energy into #1 Burn Fat and if there is a little energy left it goes into #2 Build Muscle.  BUT, what they completely neglect is what I think is the most important – #3 Feel Good. I mean honestly, who doesn’t want to feel […]

The Second, Third, and Fourth Step To A SUCCESSFUL New Years Resolution

by Ryan in Uncategorized 0 comments
Well. . . . Yesterday was the day….January 1st, 2017. The day that you told everyone or at least yourself that things were going to change. . . The day that you decided was going to be the day that you do things differently. . . So . . .Tell me. What did you do differently? What steps did you put into action today? What plan did you create for yourself? No offense but I’m going to go out a limb here and say Nothing. I mean I get it. . . . It probably went a little something like this: It was Sunday. . . . You were up late last night. . . . You have a ton of holiday left overs to eat. . . . You have Monday off from work. . . . Yeah . . . .I’ll start Tuesday But what happens on Tuesday. . . .? You go back to work…..and have to work late. The kids have school and all the extra activities that go along with it. A snowstorm comes and you get stuck shoveling. And. . . Oh yeah…This weekend your family is coming into town to visit. Next thing you […]

The First Step To A SUCCESSFUL New Years Resolution

by Ryan in Uncategorized 0 comments
Lately, I feel like I’m a time traveler. I could have sworn last week was mid-August and I was outside coaching our Elite Athlete Summer Program in 90 degree heat. How in the hell are we less than a week away from Christmas? I honestly don’t have a clue but I’m glad we’re here because this is my 2nd favorite time of year….after summer of course 🙂 Well. . . except for the usual new years routine. This is the time of year when everyone starts to think about the new year to come. . . Resolutions are made and eventually our commitments to change the things we don’t like are announced. To ourselves,  To our friends and if your ballsy enough, To the world (via some very inspirational Instagram post) We declare WAR on everything that is “bad” in our lives and make an OATH to change it. You see. . . Thanksgiving was the time to be THANKFUL. This is the time of year when we review all of the things we don’t like in our life. The time when we finally “decide” that next year is going to be the year that we CHANGE! Rarely do we give ourselves praise . […]

4 Important Habits Of EVERY World Class Athlete

by Ryan in Uncategorized 0 comments
You see them every Sunday on television. You see them nightly on the court doing seemingly impossible feats. You seem them on fields and in arenas around the country and around the world looking and performing at superhuman levels.   Today’s professional athletes are achieving accomplishments that would be unimaginable to people even a few decades ago.  They are the epitome of physical dominance, mastering every action needed to succeed at their craft.   Many people see these athletes and think, “how are they so lucky, I wish I was that talented.”  But these same people do not see these athletes the other 165 hours of the week.  They don’t see the habits these athletes stick to religiously that allows them to perform at the level they do.   These habits are nothing extraordinary.  There isn’t any secret to the success these athletes produce on a regular basis.  That doesn’t mean that it is easy, it just means that it isn’t complicated.   Embracing some of these habits in your own life can do tremendous things.  I’m not guaranteeing that you’ll be scoring touchdowns for your favorite team this Sunday, but it will give your training and your personal life […]
