What is it that fuels you to want to be healthy?
Who is it that you strive to be successful for in both health and business?
Is it your significant other?
Your kids?
Yourself?
Not everyone chooses a healthy and successful lifestyle for the same reasons. We all read these questions and have our own answers and definitions of health/success.
Which is why there is a huge power behind your WHY. Yes, goals are important to continue to move forward. But what keeps us going when times get tough and taking the easier route becomes tempting?
Setting a goal of losing ten pounds is great! But WHY do you want to do it?
Is it because you don’t feel comfortable in your own skin? You want to be healthy for your kids? You’re sick of feeling sluggish?
Really think about an attainable goal, put a time limit on it and write down HOW you will achieve it.
For example, ‘I want to lose ten pounds in six weeks by eating healthier and working out three times per week.’ Or even a goal relating to quitting something that you know isn’t helping you reach your goals like ‘I want to quit this bad habit (i.e smoking) in three weeks and replace it with something good (i.e going for a run.)’
Writing down a goal is an awesome start to something great! Now that you know what your goal is and how you’re going to achieve it, it’s time to dig down deep and find out exactly WHY you want to do it. Once you find out your why, WRITE IT DOWN. A hundred times over if you have to.
There’s nothing more powerful than having a reason behind your action.
My ‘why’s’ for making healthy choices? First and foremost, maintaining my health for my wife and family. Secondly, so I can lead by example by holding myself accountable. It’d be hypocritical of me to ask of you to workout and eat healthy if I didn’t do it too.
Many lessons can arise from making goals, no matter what they may be. We’re bound to fail at times, but if you don’t fail then you will never learn, and if you don’t try then you’ll never know.
If you find yourself having trouble sticking to your goal, no matter what it may be, always go back to that reminder of why you started in the first place.
It should be just the kick start you need to get yourself back on track!
