The First Step To A SUCCESSFUL New Years Resolution

December 27, 2016 by Ryan in Uncategorized

Lately, I feel like I’m a time traveler.

I could have sworn last week was mid-August and I was outside coaching our Elite Athlete Summer Program in 90 degree heat.

How in the hell are we less than a week away from Christmas?

I honestly don’t have a clue but I’m glad we’re here because this is my 2nd favorite time of year….after summer of course 🙂

Well. . . except for the usual new years routine.

This is the time of year when everyone starts to think about the new year to come. . .

Resolutions are made and eventually our commitments to change the things we don’t like are announced.

To ourselves,

To our friends and if your ballsy enough,

To the world (via some very inspirational Instagram post)

We declare WAR on everything that is “bad” in our lives and make an OATH to change it.

You see. . . Thanksgiving was the time to be THANKFUL.

This is the time of year when we review all of the things we don’t like in our life.

The time when we finally “decide” that next year is going to be the year that we CHANGE!

Rarely do we give ourselves praise . . .

We never show ourselves appreciation. . .

And God forbid we look back and celebrate some of our accomplishments. . .

No. No. No.

We must beat ourselves down into thinking that our life is a mess and we need to revamp it in the new year.

That”s the only way to get better right?

I don’t know about you but it sounds kinda strange to me.

But guess what. . . We are all guilty of it.

It’s engrained in our society that when we reach the end of something we focus so much on the negative . . .

What did we do wrong?

What were our failures?

What do we need to stop/start doing?

We do this so much so that we forget to even look at the positives we already have.

So this year I challenge you to flip the script.

Before you even think about making a resolution . . .

Show yourself some APPRECIATION

By PRAISING yourself

For all of your ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

Last year was the first time I actually showed myself some appreciaiton and praised myself for my accomplishments.

And ya know what?

It made a HUGE difference in the way I approached 2016.

So let’s try it again. . .

I can’t begin to tell you how much I love and appreciate the awesome Team that we’ve developed over the last year.

We got to have the party of the year with the people we love most . . .

Our O.B. Training Family

We remodeled and expanded our facility to have an all new entrance, locker rooms, and parking lot.

I had the opportunity to travel to 2 states I’ve never been before for continuing education. I met countless new friends and connected with people from all over the world (literally). Our Team also became part of a great organization, Training For Warriors.

Now I know what you’re thinking . . .

“Where are the resolutions?”

“Where are the failures?”

“What are you going to change?”

We are going to get there don’t worry, there’s still time before January 1st.

Like any process there are steps and this was the first step.

“First, you have to appreciate where you came from and all that you have accomplished along the way. Only then will you truly recognize where it is you need to go.”

– Coach O.B. –
